Scholarships and awards

Our students can take advantage of several scholarship and award opportunities.

NSW School Nanga Mai Awards

The Nanga Mai Awards are an annual event organised by Aboriginal Education and Communities Directorate. The awards recognise and celebrate innovation, excellence and educational achievement in Aboriginal education in NSW public schools, school communities and department directorates.

Premier’s Spelling Bee

The Premier’s Spelling Bee is an annual competition that encourages primary school students in Years 3 to 6 to develop their spelling skills in a fun and educational way. Students are selected at school level to take part in regional finals. Regional winners then compete in the state final.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

This Premier’s Reading Challenge encourages students from Kindergarten to Year 9 to develop a love of reading and plays an important role in developing literacy.

Premier’s Debating Challenge

The Premier’s Debating Challenge is open to students from Year 5 to 12. Teams compete in a round robin series of debates against other schools. The winners go on to compete at regional and state level to determine the eventual state champion.

Public speaking competitions

The Arts Unit offers public speaking competitions for NSW school students. Each competition is a great opportunity for students to develop their speech-writing and presentation skills while representing their schools in a state-wide competition.

Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarships

The Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarships are an opportunity to visit significant overseas sites associated with Australia’s participation in war for Years 10 and 11 students in selected schools.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award provides an internationally recognised, self-development program for people aged 14 to 25. The program equips young people with the opportunity to undertake a variety of voluntary and challenging activities.

Henty Public School Academic, Cultural & Sporting Awards

Hugh Edwards Memorial Award

This is inaugural award that honours the memory of a very much loved past student Hugh Edwards. In consultation with his family, each year this award will be presented to a student who demonstrates the values that Hugh brought to our school community. Amongst many great values Hugh is remembered particularly for his Resilience, Kindness & School Spirit.

 

Doodle Cooma Art & Craft Award Junior

Awarded to a student from the Junior and Senior school that has demonstrated a deep engagement and flair for all art and creative activities.

 

Proud & Deadly Awards
These awards are presented to Aboriginal students in recognition of their achievement at school.

 

Junior and Senior Performing Arts

The school recognises a student from each of the senior and junior schools who has been outstanding in the area of performing arts, including dance and drama.

 

The Grace Stein Excellence In Speech Award

This award is presented to a student has shown outstanding performance in speech.

 

Sports Person of the Year

This is presented to a student who has performed exceptionally at school competitions, Riverina, State and beyond in thier sporting fields.

 

The Lions Club Music Awards

These awards are kindly donated by the Henty Lions Club. This award acknowledges the commitment and dedication to music by two students in the area of band or musical appreciation.

 

Colin Terlich Music & Drama Society Award

These two awards are presented to two students who have shown a high level of engagement and skills in both music and drama this year. These awards are kindly donated by the Henty Music & Drama Society.

 

The Wellington Award for Music Achievement

This award was donated by the Wellington Family for an individual who has shown outstanding participation and a high level of skill in the field of music.

 

The Teachers’ Federation Award donated by the Culcairn District Teachers Federation

A year 6 student will receive this award tonight as an incentive to continue their commitment and participation in learning when they move to high school.

 

The Henty Community Club Forward With Honour Award  

The Henty Community Club have kindly donated this award. Our school prides itself on students who represent themselves, their school and community with honour.

 

Hume Network Award

This award will be presented to a student who has demonstrated strong personal and academic growth throughout 2018.

 

Barrie Scholarship Award

The Barrie Scholarship Awards, funded by a bequest from the Barrie Family, are presented annually to a Year 6 boy and Year 6 girl, who achieve the highest results in the fields of leadership, sportsmanship, citizenship and initiative. 

 

The Jacquie Lowrie Award for Environmental Design

The Lowrie family donated this award in memory of their daughter, Jacquie who was a past pupil at this school. The Lowrie family were proactive in sustainability and the award is to recognise a student who demonstrates an awareness of the environment and a flair in design and creativity.

 

The Bendigo Bank Junior Citizenship Award

The junior citizen award, sponsored by the Bendigo Bank, is awarded to the junior student who has demonstrated citizenship throughout the year, who has at all times displayed the values of our school and the greater community, through both their actions and words.

 

The Senior Citizenship Award

The senior citizen award, sponsored by Commins and Hendriks, is awarded to the senior student who has demonstrated citizenship throughout the year, including in school, the community and representing the school.

 

SRC Leadership Awards

These two awards are kindly donated by the Greater Hume Shire Council and are presented to the President and Secretary of the SRC for their leadership and dedication towards the organisation of the student representative council.

 

Student Representative Council Encouragement Award

Billabong High School kindly donate this award, to a student who will attend their school next year as an encouragement to be the very best they can in Year 7.

 

Greg Aplin Consistent Achievement Award 

This awarded which is kindly donated by Mr Greg Aplin, is presented to a student who has strived to achieve their best throughout the year by always having a go during all learning tasks.

 

Consistent Endeavour Awards

Consistent Endeavour Awards. These awards are donated by Martin’s Bus Travel and are to recognise a student in each year from Year 1- 6 who has worked consistently all year.

 

Academic Awards

Academic Achievement Awards for 2017. These awards are donated by Kane’s Buses and are presented to the student achieving academic excellence in each year from years 1-5.

 

The Dux of Henty Public School

The Dux of the school award this year has been donated by the Henty Country Women’s Association. The DUX of Year 6 is presented to a student with academic excellence in year 6.
